The Ames Community Arts Council (ACAC) encourages the involvement of volunteers to provide support, share knowledge, skills and expertise. With ongoing help of volunteers, ACAC is able to continue to enhance and promote the Arts in Ames! Outstanding Volunteers will be recognized at the Ames Community Arts Council‘s annual spring Arts Awards Ceremony.

The 2011 Ames Community Arts Council's Outstanding Volunteer is Nita Upchurch. Nita is a past president and board member of the Ames Community Arts Council. She has volunteered countless hours planning and coordinating the entertainment for AM in the Plaza, a series of four summer educational experiences for children of all ages. Nita has helped with the Ames Community Arts Council and Main Street Cultural District's annual Tune In to Main Street Summer Concert Series and has  promoted the Ames Community Arts Council at the annual Octagon Center for the Arts Art Festival. Nita is always available to help spread the word about the Art in Ames!

Nita has been a long-time resident of the Ames Community and has worked in the design/art profession for over 33 years. She currently owns The Redefined Home LLC, a unique interior redesign service that provides creative, unbiased design solutions while incorporating Feng Shui principles. She is a licensed Marie Diamond Quantum Univesity Teacher and also offers Feng Shui classes to those who desire to learn how to reenergize their homes and offices for their personal energies.
