Inaugural Empty Bowls to Benefit Backpack Buddies
The Ames Community Arts Council and Hardie Clay Studio are proud to partner with the Creative Artists’ Studios of Ames and other area artists and organizations to present the inaugural Empty Bowls fundraising event to support the Gilbert Schools’ Backpack Buddies program. Join us on Sat., Nov. 2 between 5:30 – 8 p.m. at the Gilbert Franklin Community Room (105 SE 2nd St., Gilbert) for a soup supper. The soup is served in a handmade bowl made by a local artist that you get to keep, along with bread, and dessert. Tickets are $25 when purchased in cash in advance, $27 online, and if available, $30 at the door. Your $25 ticket provides meals for a student for nearly a month. Tickets are available for cash/check-only purchase at Hardie Clay Studio (5847 Arrasmith Trail, Ames), Gilbert City Hall (105 SE 2nd St., inside the Gilbert Fire Station, Gilbert), The Vault (125 Main St., Gilbert), and the Octagon Center for the Arts (427 Douglas Ave., downtown Ames). To purchase online and to learn more about this event, visit the Empty Bowls website, www.amesart.org/empty-bowls.html. If space allows, tickets will be available at the door. Backpack Buddies provides food to children from families subject to food insecurity. Gilbert students who need meals over weekends and holidays may participate in this program. No other specific qualifications are required. Visit https://gilbertcsd.org/backpack-buddies or call 515-233-2421 to inquire about services and to learn more. Empty Bowls is a global, grassroots movement that raises money for food-related charities and organizations that fight hunger. Empty Bowls invites participating artists to create and donate bowls, then serve a simple meal. Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. In addition to the artwork being provided by local artists, several local restaurants and grocery stores have also generously donated to the project. This event is made possible in partnership with the Ames Community Arts Council, Hardie Clay Studio, several local artists, many from the Creative Artists’ Studios of Ames, the Octagon Center for the Arts, Nathan and Clay, and the Gilbert Community School District’s Backpack Buddies program, based at the Gilbert Lutheran Church. A special thanks to those locations making physical tickets available, and to the Ames Community Theater (ACTORS) for being our electronic ticket outlet. This project is funded in part by the City of Ames Commission on the Arts (COTA). |
